Beards for a Cause: Carson City Deputies Raise $4,900 for CCRCAC

Some of the most meaningful acts of generosity start with something simple, and in Carson City, it started with a beard.

For the second year in a row, deputies with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office participated in a four-month fundraising initiative that trades their clean-shaven appearance for a good cause. Beginning November 1, 2025, deputies who chose to participate voluntarily contributed $150 each to grow facial hair, a practice otherwise prohibited under department policy. The result: $4,900 raised for the Carson City Rural Child Advocacy Center.

CCRCAC is grateful for every dollar, and for the spirit behind this effort. This group of law enforcement professionals chose, on their own time and out of their own pockets, to show up for the children this community serves.

Detective Jonathan Tripp, CCDSA President and the driving force behind the initiative, put it plainly: the goal is to support local nonprofit organizations so the children of Carson City can benefit directly. Both the deputies’ association and the supervisors’ association participated, making this a department-wide expression of community commitment.

That commitment matters. CCRCAC serves children and families navigating some of the most difficult moments of their lives. The work requires sustained resources, trusted community partners, and neighbors who believe the well-being of local children is worth investing in. The Carson City Sheriff’s Office has demonstrated that they are exactly that kind of partner.

To every deputy who grew out that beard, to Detective Tripp for championing this effort, and to the Carson City community that continues to show up: thank you. This is what community care looks like in action.
