Donar hoyNevada Child Advocacy Collaborators
Last week, the Nevada Legislature Lawn became a field of blue pinwheels, each one a symbol of the bright, carefree childhood every Nevada child deserves. The Annual Pinwheel Planting Ceremony, organized by Advocates to End Domestic Violence (AEDV) and Prevent Child Abuse Nevada (PCANV), brought together community leaders and advocates committed to protecting children across the state. The Carson City Rural Child Advocacy Center was proud to stand with them.
A City That Showed Up
Carson City’s top leaders, including the Mayor, District Attorney, and Sheriff, stood together in support of child abuse prevention and the families the CCRCAC serves. Mayor Lori Bagwell addressed attendees and made clear that the CCRCAC has her support, including a commitment to advocate for the center in the city’s upcoming budget process. Her remarks were a public declaration that the children and families we serve matter to this community’s leadership.
District Attorney Garrit Pruyt and Sheriff Ken Furlong were also present, reflecting the law enforcement partnerships that make the CCRCAC’s multidisciplinary team model work. Nevada DCFS was represented as well, underscoring the broader network of support surrounding this work.
New, and Doing It Right
Jan Marson, Founder of Serving Our Communities Foundation and Executive Director of the CCRCAC, spoke to what it means to be a new organization building something that lasts. She emphasized that while the CCRCAC is new, it is doing things the right way, grounded in a deep commitment to Carson City and to every family across northern Nevada navigating the realities of trauma, abuse, and neglect.
With strong community partnerships, growing institutional support, and Mayor Bagwell’s commitment heading into budget season, the CCRCAC is positioned to reach more families than ever before.
Every dollar given to the CCRCAC goes directly to free forensic interviews, trauma therapy, and advocacy services for children across eight rural Nevada counties. Make your gift today.
