Organizational Structure

Multidisciplinary Team Approach

We facilitate a coordinated response by a Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) that will collaborate from the point of report of child abuse and throughout a child and family’s involvement with our Child Advocacy Center.

Our Approach

With a Multidisciplinary Team

Multidisciplinary Team members share information, coordinate contact with the victim, and work together to create an action plan for the child and family. Comprising the MDT are professionals from law enforcement, child protective services, the District Attorney’s office, medical and mental health providers, victim advocates, forensic interviewers, and Child Advocacy Center Staff. By employing an MDT, we hope to reduce trauma, improve services, improve communication and collaboration, and improve outcomes for victims and their families.

Collaborative Approach

The multidisciplinary team works closely to ensure a trauma-informed and carefully monitored experience

Law Enforcement. Our Child Advocacy Center is managed in partnership with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, who assist with all law enforcement services including forensic interviews and investigation.

Child Protective Services. The focus of CPS is on protecting the child from harm or risk of harm and to make it safe for the child to live with their parent or caretaker.

Prosecution. The Carson City District Attorney’s Office oversee victims’ cases, working towards a just outcome.

Medical Professionals. Our Child Advocacy Center has the facilities to conduct medical evaluations and collect physical evidence on-site. The examinations are conducted by healthcare providers with specialized training and expertise.

Mental Health Services. Mental health professionals contribute valuable information to the MDT regarding the child’s emotional state, treatment, and other service needs.

Victim Advocacy. Victim advocates assist Child Protective Services and law enforcement during the investigative processes. They also educate family members about sexual abuse and trauma responses.
